Objectives

The aim of the training is to deliver all required elements of STCW Basic Safety Training delivered in both theoretical and practical modules, each training element will be assessed by qualified assessors to meet the competence requirements of the STCW code.

Contents

Delegates will undergo practical and theoretical instruction and assessment in the following modules.

  • Personal Survival Techniques
  • Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities
  • Elementary First Aid
  • Fire Prevention and Fire-Fighting

Prerequisites

Prior experience is not required for those embarking on this training other than a minimum age of 16.

Target group

This combination of MCA approved training courses is intended to meet the provision and Basic Safety Training for all seafarers, as required in section A-VI/1 of the STCW code, to meet the specified standards of competence.

Training consists of four modules delivered over five days and meets the STCW code and elements 121.3 of unit 121, 121.4 of unit 121 and 121.1/121.2 of unit 121.

The training programme also meets the requirements of the Norwegian NMD and IMO STCW standards.
