Target Group This training is designed for currently appointed OPITO-certified HERTLs that are required to revalidate their OPITO HERTL certification by refreshing and updating their knowledge and skills in aspects of their role that they cannot practice in the workplace.
Prerequisites (a)  A valid OPITO Helideck Emergency Response Team Leader Training Certificate

or

(b)  A valid OPITO Helideck Emergency Response Team Leader Further Training Certificate

OR

(c)  A valid OPITO Helideck Operations Initial Training certificate and a valid Helideck Emergency Response Team Member (HERTM) certificate and a valid Offshore Emergency Response Team leader (OERTL) Certificate.
Objective The aim and objectives of the HERTL Further Training Programme is to refresh elements of HERTL training that cannot be completed in the workplace and updating HERTLs on key changes to helicopter operations, systems, relevant legislation and regulation over the previous 2 years (approx.)
Contents
  • Key parts of relevant helideck operations regulations and guidelines Helideck ER team priorities during an emergency
  • Firefighting systems; fixed and mobile
  • Review requirements for pre-use checks, donning and use of breathing apparatus
  • Search and rescue on the helideck and inside the helicopter Casualty management.
  • Human factors during emergency response including stress affecting decision making, physical limitations and sources of assistance available during emergency events
  • Awareness and understanding of back up crew during protracted incident HERTL Further practical training in emergency response
